And so summer begins, and with it comes outdoor summer
projects! Our summer project this year was to build a deck in our back yard. We had a tiny patio space, but it just wasn’t
big enough for anything! We discussed
several possibilities – garden stones, adding another pad of concrete, or a
wooden deck. We decided on a wooden
deck, and Matt being the crafty man that he is brought out is
quickly-filling-up graph book of projects and got to work. I have absolutely no sense of vision when it
comes to these things, so I rely solely on his ability to envision and build,
and I’m just along for the ride.
Projects like these almost always involve a father-son
partnership…Milon used to be a wood-shop teacher and so, obviously, he is very
handy and knowledgeable with all types of wood craft. (Before starting on our deck, Matt and Milon
re-built the deck out at their house).
While I participated in screwing down a few boards and
holding railing posts (my least-favorite job), my main job was to make sure I
tracked the progress of all things deck-building with pictures! The following is a photo-journal if you will
of our deck project, beginning to end (though not necessarily in that order). Enjoy!
So much has been
happening already
this Spring, and it seems like Spring has barely begun! Audrey had her first dance recital, the school year is coming to an end, we took a day trip to the mountains, spent a weekend at the family cabin - all within a couple of weeks! The first pictures posted are from our weekend at the cabin. We went up on a Friday night and home on a Sunday morning, but it was just enough time to feel like were able to relax for a couple of days and get work out of our minds.
While at the cabin we went for a little walk down the road, which is where I got some of these cute outdoor pictures. The kids really enjoyed their little walk, though the highway isn't far away and every time a big truck or motorcycle would drive by, Audrey would freak out and cling to someone for a little while.
Audrey and Kellen love to play on the piano. Here are a few recent shots of them making music together.
Sibling hug! This is my favorite picture of them!
Audrey had her first dance recital this week. Her little dance group danced to Winnie the Pooh's "Rumbly in my Tumbly." She just loves to get all dressed up and put make-up on! She's Momma's little girly-girl! We sure wish more people could have made it to her performance, but I'll try to post a video on here (if it's not too long). The video isn't the best quality, and it's a little shaky, AND her teacher came and sat right in front of me and I couldn't move, so it's a little hard to see what's going on.
This past weekend we took at trip up to a little camp-ground above Idaho City and had a picnic. It's the same little camp ground I have camped at much of my life, and where we had a Father's Day picnic when my Dad came up from Texas shortly after Matt and I got married. It was a delightful little trip, and the kids really had a blast running around and climbing on rocks.
